News of interest
- During January 21 City Council meeting Suzanne Harris representing the HomeBuilders Association asked Council to revisit setbacks and height (sidewall height and overall height) for residential homes and also streamline the permitting process and reduce review times. Mayor referred streamlining to GNR Committee and asked staff to look at heights and setbacks. This is only going to result in bigger/taller houses that cover more lot surface; it will do nothing to add affordable density.
- Also during January 21 City Council meeting Dickie Thompson was reappointed to RDU Airport Authority by a vote of 5 to 2. David Knight had nominated former Governor Perdue’s DENR Secretary Dee Freeman, but only Knight and David Cox supported Freeman. Apparently Council has not taken any action to support the Umstead Coalition in its appeal of the quarry lawsuit. This despite campaign promises to the contrary by many of the newly elected Council members.
