News of interest
  • On Tuesday afternoon, late into a Raleigh City Council meeting, a majority of five council members (Buffkin, Knight, Martin, Melton, Stewart) and the mayor voted to abolish Raleigh’s CACs (Citizen Advisory Councils). They did so with no citizen input and no advance notice.  In fact, they kept their fellow council member David Cox out of the loop. They voted to hire a consultant to recommend improvements in citizen engagement. The irony is palpable. CACs intend to continue operating in some fashion without City support.

  • At Tuesday’s meeting Council also voted to create a police advisory board, albeit without subpoena power.

  • Also at Tuesday’s meeting, Council authorized staff to initiate several text changes that would increase density in various zoning districts. There will be opportunities for community input as the text changes evolve.

What to look for in upcoming meetings
  • On Tuesday at 9am, Planning Commission agenda includes a text change to remove ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) overlay districts and allow construction of ADUs by-right everywhere throughout the City

  • On Tuesday at 4pm, City Council will be discussing Affordable Housing Bond
