Community SCALE is a nonprofit coalition of residents across Raleigh neighborhoods working together to advocate for development in our communities that respects the existing built environment, the natural environment, and the history of individual neighborhoods.
With origins in
several of Raleigh's older neighborhoods whose residents played a
key role role in responding to the early waves of teardown
redevelopment, Community SCALE quickly attracted interest from
neighborhoods throughout the city.
Between 2007 and
2010, Community SCALE volunteers encouraged and educated citizens as they
collaborated as stakeholders in the development of Raleigh’s new Comprehensive
Plan, participated in events hosted by Preservation NC and the Raleigh
Planning Department, presented their concerns at City Council and Commission
meetings, and reviewed the code that became the Unified Development Ordinance
(UDO).
Among Community SCALE’s most important projects has been
influencing the creation of Residential Infill Compatibility Standards that are a component
of the Unified Development Ordinance code and regulations. It continues
to play a role in advocating for responsible growth.
