Following a series of public workshops, the city, with the assistance of project consultants, has created a draft Falls of Neuse area plan report.  The report, which contains recommended policies and actions for the project area, is now available for review and comment. The city is seeking feedback on the report and recommendations through November 2.

Week of October 16 – What Happened

Tuesday, 10/17
  • Text Change Committee of the Planning Commission met to discuss TC-16-17 regarding NCOD Development Standards.  If adopted, the text change would expand the list of items considered for regulation and thereby increase the effectiveness of an NCOD’s ability to maintain the existing character of a neighborhood.  The text change would reinsert numerous development standards that were previously allowed under the former Part 10 Development Code, including vehicular surface areas, minimum and maximum lot sizes, minimum and maximum lot widths, building entrances, building placement on the lot, and distances between buildings.  TC-16-17 is on the agenda for Planning Commission on 10/24.
  • Raleigh City Council denied Z-42-15 (Lake Wheeler Road) and set public hearings for Z-17-17 (Peace Street) and Z-21-14 (Brier Creek Parkway) for December 5th.

Sunday, 10/15
The Friends of Oberlin Village announce that in recognition of the cultural and civic significance of Oberlin Village, a historic road marker will be unveiled at 12:50 PM on Sunday, October 15, 2017. The brief ceremony will be held on the marker’s site on the north west corner of the Historic Turner House, 1002 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, NC 27605. All are invited to attend and show support for the efforts to preserve Oberlin Village’s oral, written, and architectural history.
